Remotasks is a crowdsourcing program created by a company named Scale AI Inc, which specializes in building and upgrading artificial intelligence.
If you sign up to Remotasks you can participate in their GPT program to earn some money. You’ll be required to complete different tasks that vary from transcribing to data gathering and something called Lidar.
The company’s headquarters are based in San Francisco, CA, however, the opportunity is open to everyone including people that live outside of the US.

Remotasks is modelled to resemble a site that offers mini-jobs. It provides a variety of tasks to members, who are named taskers. The tasks are assigned to the company by their clients, a group of small companies and startups that outsource these tasks.

- To get started you will need to join using your Facebook account. You don’t need to provide an email address. There are no other options to sign up except with your Facebook account.
- After signing up you will need to take a series of exams. These can be found on the dashboard. Passing these exams will open up access to a wider range of tasks.
- When you choose a task you have to work on it until it’s done. Simply go through the instructions and complete the task prior to the deadline. Quitting a task part way through it will negatively affect your accuracy scores and could get you banned if you constantly do this or make too many errors.
- You’ll be paid for each task that you get done. To receive payments you will need to provide your PayPal details. Payments are automatically sent out each week. Thankfully, there’s no minimum payment threshold.

Remotasks shares many similarities with alternative task-based websites out there, however, Remotasks is much more distinct compared to other sites because their tasks are very unique and we’ve not come across these types of jobs elsewhere.
The exams that you take during registration will correlate to the tasks as listed below:
- Categorization: These tasks involve categorizing various sites based on the products, services and content that they offer.
- Image Annotation: This task requires you to circle around an object within an image. The majority of these will involve drawing a circle around a car on a road.
- Transcribing Images and Audio: For this task you will be required to type out an audio recording or the description of an image shown to you.
- Data Collection: You’ll be required to browse online and gather data needed by the client.
Other Requirements
- Member’s English needs to be fluent.
- Tasks have to be finished by the stipulated deadlines.
- The competency and accuracy to get jobs done on time will affect your performance rating. If your accuracy remains low or if tasks are constantly finished after the deadline, your account will be terminated.
- The company doesn’t give you another chance to do the tasks again, therefore, you need to ensure that they’re done correctly the first time.
- When the task is submitted, you can’t make any further changes to it.
- You computer will require a minimum of 4GB RAM to cope with the tasks.
- You can’t use your smartphone to do tasks on Remotasks because most of them require 2D and 3D annotation.
- PayPal’s 2% payout fee will be deducted from your payment.
- The only available sign up option is through your Facebook account.
How Much Money Can You Make With Remotasks?
There are many variables that could influence the amount of money you can make, however, the main ones are-

- The amount of time you commit to task every week.

1). It’s Not Easy To Earn With Remotask
The pay rates are more attractive than the alternative GPT products we’ve come across. However, it’s not the kind of product that we would recommend as a sustainable income stream.
Your earnings are directly influenced by the types of tasks you get done and how many you can get through. At best, you’ll earn a few bucks per day and as such, it’s not a suitable replacement for your 9-5 job.
2). Suspicious Testimonials
The testimonials showcased on Remotask’s site look suspicious. Below is an example of a questionable comment which I noticed:

How is it possible that this member was working with Remotasks in 2016 when it didn’t even exist until 2017?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the site is fraudulent. But it might have been a way to lure potential members to sign up to the program. Sneaky marketing!

1). Variety of Tasks
It’s possible to potentially earn hundreds of dollars through this program but this will depend on your existing technical skills. You won’t generate a 6-figure salary, however, if you’re diligent at getting tasks done and manage to access the ones with better rates, you can earn several hundreds of dollars.
Is Remotasks a Scam or a Genuine Business?
Remotasks is definitely not a scam. It’s actually one of the better-paying GPT sites currently available. However, I cannot recommend it for those that want to make a full-time salary.
The earnings are minimal and as such, you will need to complete a considerable amount of tasks to make it worthwhile. Remember that you also need to do the tests if you want jobs with better pay.
The truth is that you will need to commit a lot of hours and effort into this opportunity to make a decent amount of money.
