How To Earn Money Selling Online
Traditionally, selling online has involved finding or buying some stock and reselling it to make a profit. Easy enough right? The internet has definitely made it possible for pretty much anyone to become a seller in a few steps but is selling all it’s cracked up to be? Here is a quick guide on how to earn money selling online without stock.
I remember witnessing the online selling phenomenon through my friend Steve who was obsessed with lego. Steve would go to car boot sales and gather up as many of those lego bricks as he could get his hands on. After spending a weekend of lego shopping, Steve would go up into his attic and build lego sets which he sold on eBay for considerably more than the cost of those cheap bricks.
Steve was making a killing! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and it was at that point I was hooked! What Steve was doing seemed so simple but in fact, he had found a way of getting something that most people deemed useless and personalising it into something special for his buyers.
The way I viewed the internet changed from then on…
My First Challenge
My 1st task was to find a product that I loved. I’ve always been into gadgets and music. So what did I go do? I searched for headphones, earphones, speakers, phones that were on sale, I also looked for any relating accessories and got selling. At the time, HD TVs were becoming a lot more affordable and being sold to the masses. I did a bit of easy research, got feedback from my customers and soon discovered that there was a need for cheaper HDMI cables, for people to plug accessories into their new TVs. I was able to source quality cables and sell them at a much cheaper price whilst still making a healthy profit. It was a win-win for everyone. Though the experience was short-lived due to the ever-increasing competition. Rivals had cottoned on to my HDMI secret…
What If We Remove Stock From The Equation?
What if we could use the above method but not need stock? I spent a considerable amount of time finding reputable sources for my stock. This involved a bit of negotiation and was risky at the beginning because I would have to tie my money up into buying stock which I wasn’t sure would even sell. Luckily this wasn’t the case, but not everything sold quickly and some stock needed to be re-listed several times (at a cost) before a purchase was made.
Fast-forward to today and I have now learnt how to successfully sell products using affiliate marketing which means that I don’t physically own the stock but instead I promote products that I love and earn a commission sometimes as much as 75%.

The Importance of Value
If we refer back to my earlier story about Steve you will see that finding the value in something and putting this across to your customers will put you in good stead. You will be a valuable source of information and naturally, your recommendations will be held in high regard.
Steve’s hobby turned into a lucrative revenue stream but to achieve this he had to believe in his product and see that he was giving his buyers something truly unique. It wasn’t just the product but how he interacted with his audience and the buyer’s experience from the moment they first saw his listing to when they received the lego set through the post. Steve wanted to make this process a pleasure for his customers and share his passion for lego.
If you provide this same experience to your audience you will go a very long way. Before thinking about profits, you first need to provide helpful and thorough recommendations. Personally, I don’t try to pretend, by marketing a product that I wouldn’t use or have any interest in. There’s no point in doing this because it’s misleading and actually makes your marketing life much harder than it needs to be. There are tonnes of affiliate products out there which you already use, for example, your television, your watch or fridge. These are all things that can be marketed and the list is endless!
Signing up to an Affiliate Program
We will use eBay as a good example of an affiliate program, there’s is called eBay Partner Network. To start, you will need to apply and get accepted onto the program which won’t be an issue if you have websites that are ranked on search engines like Google. But if you are starting from scratch then the best approach is to hold off applying and start by building and fine-tuning your website. Don’t worry, you can do this the simple way using the steps described here. It’s a doddle once you get going. Once your website is up and running, and has good quality content, you will be in a much better position to apply.
Once you’re approved onto the affiliate program you can start promoting listings being sold by businesses, private users or both. It’s best to promote products similar to your website theme or topic of interest. You should also select high-quality products to ensure that your audience trusts your recommendations and see your site as a source of valuable information.
Now you need to search for a product for sale or auction on eBay which relates to your website content, for example, if your site provides article reviews on Samsung phones you could look for a seller that stocks the latest Samsung galaxy s6 cellphone and include an affiliate link within your article. You will be making commissions when your readers click through to eBay from your link and purchase the phone.
Your next task would be to attract traffic to your site using various techniques such as social media promotions or keyword ranking within Google, yahoo, bing etc. I have an article on a great Keyword research tool that I use to pull in masses of traffic to my sites. Check it out here.
One thing to remember about promoting on eBay is that if the product you are promoting is an auction item, don’t forget to remove the affiliate link from your article once the auction has ended. Nobody wants to click through to an expired auction. If you have several listings and need to keep track of them, you could create a spreadsheet in google docs with the list of your promotions, the dates that they are expiring and the relating article. It will save you a lot of time in the long run.
If it’s a BUY IT NOW product, you just need to ensure that the seller has a high inventory available, to avoid stock running out on your customers.
How Do I Use The Internet to Make a Full-Time Salary?
I’m not a big fan of get-rich-quick schemes or Cryptocurrency MLM programs, let’s just say that I’ve been caught short a few times.
Instead, Affiliate Marketing is my leading recommendation for people that want to build a thriving full-time online business working from home.
Here are my reasons why…
- You can get started for Free.
- There’s no pressure to recruit family and friends, or anyone else for that matter.
- You can create a business from virtually any product including the ones that you already buy. You are not limited to low-income or inferior products.
Affiliate marketing can help you to…
Generate a 4-Figure Monthly Salary and become financially free from the limitations of a traditional day job. You can do this in less than 12 months!
